Apple & Google maps not working.

Hi All,

I have an iphone 6s with ios 11.2.5 and neither of the maps are working outside of wifi (Apple & Google) (on mobile data). Can someone please fix this issue asap or advise me on how to fix it.

Many thanks in advance!

It could well be a hardware issue — especially given that the formerly sealed phone was opened and worked on a few months ago. I thumbed back through all the posts, and I didn’t see if you had mentioned if you ever scrolled down in the list on the cellular data “permissions” screen to make sure the GPS apps are switched on there as well? You can tailor specific apps to allow them to use cellular data individually.

I empathize with your plight. Both Google Maps and iOS Maps we’re doing the same thing as yours (jumping around or having the vehicle avatar in a field beside the road I was on). It all began either two or three updates ago. With the last update it stopped altogether. I was livid. That’s when I found that cellular data had been toggled off on mine somehow in the update. Unfortunately given your specific circumstances, hardware sounds as likely a culprit as software at this point. Really hope you get it straightened out without shelling out a ton of dough. Good luck.

YES! But I warn you: It's not for the faint of heart.

I did all the recommended operations, including a complete wipe and reinstall.

Ultimately, my husband and son replaced the GPS & WiFi antennae. We ordered it from Amazon, along with a set of cell phone tools. Total cost: $16. It took them about an hour. They followed a YouTube video.

I would not have done this is my phone was still in warranty. But it is nearly 4 years old. I was fully prepared to trade it for a new phone but decided to go for broke and do this.

I'm not sure why the antennae stop working. Either it just wore out or something happened when the Genius Bar replaced the battery in December. I had trouble with GPS starting with a trip in January (I don't use maps that much), and then began having trouble connecting to WiFi last month.

It works like a charm now!

Restart did not resolve my problem.

iOS MAP and Google Maps do not properly show GPS position and tracking.

Starting a trip from place a to B in Toronto.

Open Maps, select destination, push directions button, select GO. This behaves as it should.

However once Go is selected and the MAP orients to show the start of trip, the arrow does not move as car moves, but tends to jump periodically to updated positions on the route. The map does not orient properly when turning corners.

THEN

everything seems to work ok.

The duration from start to when it appears to work is up to 10 minutes.

This same problem occurs also on Google Maps and on another iPhone 6s simultaneously although the final proper tracking happens at different times.

I no longer participate in thee AppleSeed program. My build is:11.2.6

There are numerous cases of similar issues reported in Google Search and the iPhone community

Although late and slightly different, I seem to have resolved my problem by loading the iOS 11.3 Beta. I did this because I was in contact with Apple to try to resolve my similar problem with iOS 11.2 so I could take a memmory and states dump.

Loading iOS 11.3 cured all my probelms.

I have to agree that there was something in the iOS 11.2 that caused problems, expecially when there was added BT traffic with an Apple watch.

My WIFI problem has improved substantially since I started over "as a new phone" after wiping the device clean. I believe the latest OS update was a factor as well. Of course the most interesting change is that no GPS apps work except for Apple Maps, which seems to be the only app that can access the GPS sensor, leaving Waze & Google Maps malfunctioning completely. I am also unable to use Bluetooth with a device that's more than a couple of feet away. My phone is clearly just not able to run iOS11, but Apple is offering me no options that make any sense. The best they could do was offer me an exchange by mail, but I would be risking being locked into spending far more than the device is worth to repair it. This is not the Apple I remember - and something like this would never have happened back in the day when it wasn't the richest company in the world.

I've had this issue now for a couple of months. I've done the following, to NO AVAIL:

1. Hard restart/reboot

2. Resetting the network connections

3. Resetting the Location & Privacy

4. Deleted the maps and reinstalled, and finally...

5. Restored my phone with a new install of 11.3

My iphone 6s is 3.5 years old. I've never had a single problem with it, except that I had a new battery put in at the Apple store in December.

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, that's not my issue. Cellular Data is on. Since I chimed in on May 8, I've updated to 11.4. Some of the maps (Google & Waze) have also updated.

The map can tell me how to get somewhere. All the steps are correct. But turn-by-turn navigation does not work. The phone is not tracking my car, usually placing it slightly off the route in a residential area, or by a frontage road. And it does not "speak" after the initial instruction.

At this point I'm wondering when I need to bite the bullet, whip out my credit card, and take it to the Apple store. When should I come to the conclusion that it's a hardware issue? The phone is 3.5 years old.

Thank you for your interest. I never mentioned cellular permissions because that's the first thing I check when there is an issue. As I mentioned before, the phone can find me and even set a route at the outset. Then it loses me when I move. This happens where I'm connected to WiFi or sitting on a roadside somewhere.

My husbands wants me to get a new phone. I'm not planning to do that for one issue. I pulled out my old Garmin Nuvi and updated it!
