I have a 27" iMac and a 23-inch NEC EX231W-BK. Nothing seems to work for adaptors because the MacBook 12-inch has NO thunderbolt capability. I need help. Does a USB-C to USB-3 work? Has anyone had this experience?
I have a 2017 12 inch MacBook. I am able to connect to an external monitor using USB-C to DisplayPort or HDMI. You need to use the appropriate adapter or cable, depending on your monitor connection.

The USB-C port handles Thunderbolt 2 or 3. You will need the Apple adapter.
Not on a 12" Retina MacBook. It is not Thunderbolt capable with any adapter. Those adapters are for use with MacBook Pros that have multiple USB-C ports that have Thunderbolt compatibility.
