How can I set a default view in the CarPlay Maps?

When I get in the car and plug in the phone, it automatically gives me directions, home, to the next item in my calendar, whatever.

That’s fine. Sometimes I need directions, usually I do not. When directions or ETA are being used, the view is great, auto zoom, auto 3D, very pretty.

The problem exists when I cancel out of directions, it will switch to one of 3 views: Center map, arrow drives off the screen. (Most common and the most useless) Center arrow facing up, map following screen, 2D. Center arrow facing up, map following screen, 3D. (This is the most desirable, yet the least frequently chosen option by the phone)

I am then forced to tap the screen, tap the arrow in the upper left corner and tap the 3D symbol next to the arrow. (The zoom is random and has no basis on need, speed, or history)

How do I set a default appearance? Same arrow, same screen, same 3D, same zoom?

I was under the impression this WHOLE system is designed to lessen the taps I have to make on the screen while driving.

For information, I am driving a GMC Acadia Denali 2017, iPhone X with fully up to date iOS.

Oh, and if apple wants to allow access to Waze on CarPlay, that would be great.
