Tracer (Trailing) effect in FCP X.

Back in 2000 I bought a Panasonic DS8 camcorder which had a number of canned special effects. One of them was called "Tracer" and gave the most fantastic appearance to moving objects. At the time I filmed some people doing yoga against a contrasting background and as they moved their arms through an arc it produced a beautiful trail of images.

I can't find a good example but there is something similar in this video clip, although I am sure the Tracer effect in the camera gave more images which were closer together.

I would ideally like a canned effect as in my old camera but guess the only way to achieve it now involves hard work.

Any suggestions as to how to achieve it in FCP X?
