New Centurylink Modem - wireless network no longer connects to internet

Just replaced my parents modem from Centurylink with an Actiontec C1900A modem/router. It had been set up so they were able to use the wireless network created by the multiple Time Machines in the house as the main connection and the Centurylink wireless network as a secondary option. Since installing the C1900A the wireless network from the Time Machines will not connect to the internet.

One Time Machine is plugged directly into the C1900A via an ethernet cable. They networks are named differently and it worked last week. All of the secondary things in the house are connected to the old wireless network and it will be a major hassle to switch everything over to the Centurylink network...especially if this new unit lasts all of three months like the last one.

Any suggestions on how I get the original wireless network to connect to the internet again? Thanks!

Whenever you replace the modem, or change the Internet Service Provider, you will need to reset the Time Capsule that is connected directly to the new modem or modem/router.

That means a Hard Reset to erase the current network settings and then a new setup so the Time Capsule can pick up new correct settings from the new modem/router. You can use the same device name for the Time Capsule and use the same wireless network name and password that you used before if you wish. A Hard Reset will not affect any of the data that is stored on the Time Capsule hard disk.

To perform a Hard Reset, power on the Time Capsule for a minute or two

Hold in the reset button on the back of the Time Capsule for 7-8 seconds, then release

Allow a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow blinking amber light status

Since the second Time Capsule will be connected to the first Time Capsule, it should not be necessary to reset the second Time Capsule, but you will need to power off both Time Capsules and then restart again once the first Time Capsule is up and running correctly.

So, the plan would look something like this:

Power off the second Time Capsule and leave it off for now

Reset the first Time Capsule that will connect to the modem/router back to default settings using a Hard Reset

Set up the first Time Capsule and test to make sure that everything is working correctly

Power off the first Time Capsule, wait a minute, then power it back up again

Power up the second Time Capsule
