I use a Mac at work and would like to be able to utilize iMessages to chat, and share notes with my friends and colleagues. I have never owned, and have no intention of owning an iPhone.I have an iCloud (Apple) ID. Is this possible, and if so, how?
As it stands I have iMessages up and have sent messages to others, and they are not receiving them.

if I'm reading this correctly you can use iMessage and other services through your Apple ID but not for SMS or MMS without a cellular plan.
You can send messages to other Apple devices yes. Just use their email address or A phone number attached to an iPhone they have, to send them messages.
You will not be able to send sms Text messages to non Apple devices from your Mac.
Basically you cannot text people.

I should have been clearer. You can't text non-Apple devices as Phil pointed out.
Can I use iMessage in my Mac without ever having an iPhone?
