Itunes on Ipad

Hi,

I need to find out how to add music files to itunes library on an Ipad Pro.

My music files are located on a shared network folder.

For example on my macbook pro i can open Itunes and "add folders to library" and then browse to and select the shared network folder. The music will be added to the library but the actual files will still be at the same location. No files will be copied to another location.

On the Ipad when i open Itunes/music app i have no option to browse to or "add folders to library".

In the library it just says "are you looking for your music? Music you buy will be shown here"

But before i buy anything i would like to add the music i already own.

I have installed the FileExplorer app which gives me access to the folder where my music is located on the network share.

So heres a couple of questions:

Can i only play music that are stored locally on the Ipad?

Not possible to add files/folders from a network folder to the library?

Please help me understand!

If you've added them to your computer's iTunes library, and if the computer and iPad are connected to the same wifi network and have home sharing enabled using the same account on both (Settings > Music on the iPad ; File > Home Sharing on the computer), you should see the music under Home Sharing in the iPad's Music app for streaming : Use Home Sharing to share iTunes content with other devices - Apple Support

Depending upon your iTunes' settings/preferences you shouldn't need to copy the music onto the computer, it should be able to pick them up from the drive and stream them from that to the iPad

See Use Home Sharing to share iTunes content with other devices - Apple Support. You can access the iTunes library, which in turn uses the tracks on your network share, but it can be slow to access your library there, and of course only works on your local network. You could create one or more playlists of your favourite content and sync that to your device with iTunes so that you don't swallow up all its capacity.

You could also potentially use something like Plex to play media from a shared network location, but I suspect it isn't ideal for music.

But i dont want it to sync because i only have 32GB space on my Ipad.

What i want is to add files to the library like i do on the computer (without syncing or copying the files to the computer)

On my computer i use Itunes and stream all music from the network folder to the airport express.

So i wonder if it is possible to do the same thing with the Ipad instead of the computer?

I followed all steps and configured computer and ipad, but cant see any homesharing folder on my ipad. Or my Iphone.Would be nice if this folder showed up so i could see if it actually works.

I can use Plex installed on Nvdidia Shield TV, but then i wont be able to cast to airport express.

For further details i should have mentioned (im not sure if it matters) that the music folder i am trying to access from the Ipad is located on the Nvidia Shield TV and shared over .smb. None of these files are bought in itunes. They are all personal recordings, samples etc. I have no music files on the Ipad yet.

Because i couldnt browse the shared folder with the standard ios app i installed another (fileexplorer) from the appstore which gives me access to the smb folder without problem, i can even navigate to the folder and play the files i like with the music app. So the iPad is actually able to play from the shared folder to the airport express. But no files are added in anykind of library in the music app.
