Itunes on Ipad

Hi,

I need to find out how to add music files to itunes library on an Ipad Pro.

My music files are located on a shared network folder.

For example on my macbook pro i can open Itunes and "add folders to library" and then browse to and select the shared network folder. The music will be added to the library but the actual files will still be at the same location. No files will be copied to another location.

On the Ipad when i open Itunes/music app i have no option to browse to or "add folders to library".

In the library it just says "are you looking for your music? Music you buy will be shown here"

But before i buy anything i would like to add the music i already own.

I have installed the FileExplorer app which gives me access to the folder where my music is located on the network share.

So heres a couple of questions:

Can i only play music that are stored locally on the Ipad?

Not possible to add files/folders from a network folder to the library?

Please help me understand!

If you've added them to your computer's iTunes library, and if the computer and iPad are connected to the same wifi network and have home sharing enabled using the same account on both (Settings > Music on the iPad ; File > Home Sharing on the computer), you should see the music under Home Sharing in the iPad's Music app for streaming : Use Home Sharing to share iTunes content with other devices - Apple Support

Depending upon your iTunes' settings/preferences you shouldn't need to copy the music onto the computer, it should be able to pick them up from the drive and stream them from that to the iPad
