CarPlay disconnecting

Hello, Bought a new 2018 BMW 430i and have been having issues from the start with CarPlay using my iPhone X. Continuously disconnects and then reconnects. Usually after about 10 minutes of driving. Has anyone else had this issues and found any resolutions. I’ve been in contact with BMW and they are saying numerous people have been reporting it and it’s an Apple software issue.

iPhone X, iOS 11.2.5

Yesterday I went to the local Apple store. They erased and re-installed the IOS on my IPhone X. Since then, car play is working great. If it fails again, they say the issue will most likely be hardware at which time the phone will need to be replaced.

I am having the same issues. I have a iPhone 7 Plus and a kenwood DDX9017DABS in my car so that I can have CarPlay. After performing Apple update the Phone will disconnect after 10seconds or less and won’t connect again.

It might reconnect if I reset the audio system but disconnects again shortly after.

I have even bought a new cable to see if that works. Didn’t make a difference.

Tried all the settings changes that are explained when searching for an answer. That didn’t make a difference.

Apple please update iOS to resolve this issue. I wanted Apple CarPlay to make my driving habits safer, I am finding myself looking at the screen a lot more to try and resolve the problem.

I was having this issue too. No matter what I tried, nothing seemed to work. Then I noticed when I opened my Settings, there was a switch for VPN (Virtual Private Network) that I had never seen before. VPN was on. I decided to switch it off, but almost immediately it switched back on by itself. After some investigation, I discovered it was associated with the AT&T Mobile Security app that I also recently downloaded. I deleted the app, the VPN switch disappeared entirely and my CarPlay seems to be functioning without any connection issues.

I have this issue since I moved from iPhone 8 to 8 plus. I have read the thread almost all of the reply’s and my conclusion is that it must be an iOS release issue. In my case it started jappening in a BMW X3 without CarPlay (only Connected Drive) just after the first time I connected the new 8 plus, and now recently in a Tiguan 2019 with CarPlay. So it looks like nothing to do with CarPlay itself but between certain car brands and the iPhone connection. And looks like it doesn’t matter if it’s cabled or wireless.

The recently stated solution seems logic (if Apple really released a patch) so I will try to delete the phone in the cars and add it again to see if that solves the problem, I’ll be back.

Great in principle, but as with other car problems, many are intermittent. With CarPlay, many of the issues raised here have only been occurring irregularly therefore, it would be very fortunate if any manufacturer or dealer would be able to identify or rectify a problem which is not always present. You can bet that when you bring your car or unit to be checked everything is working fine.........until you drive away when it reoccurs!

I have got a 2018 commodore as well and am having same problem, I have iphone6s plus with iOS 13.1, I also just got car software updated at latest service, didn’t fix the problem, it seems to lock up and cut out sooner if anything, tried with Bluetooth off, no change, USB port works with with music stick, seems CarPlay is overwhelming the phone

pls answer Apple

adding to the thread - iPhone x 13.3, brand new BMW x5 - connecting over wifi (the car creates its own network) random disconnects and stutter - on occasion is perfect for long periods of time then next journey can't play a song for more than a couple of minutes - also constantly drops calls back to the phone and then reconnects

amazingly frustrating

Is this a 2019 or 2020 X5?

When you go into connected mobile devices does your screen look like this, with two of the same phone connected?

Or this, with just one phone?

Unfortunately not built in AU anymore. A shame.

Can you provide a picture of the software version of your car? (unless you really feel like writing down a few 16 digit numbers)

Settings -> Software Information

A few questions.

Do you use the built-in Pandora? Does it work correctly?

Do you have any issues that the car indicates, but are not really issues? An example: It will tell the your tire pressure is too low when it is actually correct. Power steering warnings?

The "Settings" menu may have a different spot for AU cars, I'm the US. Regardless, I can still see diagnostic information on AU models so I shouldn't have an issue walking you through some procedures.

Mine is a base model so maybe top of line look different but here are 2 shots, one that has “projection” is without USB connected, one with CarPlay is with USB connected, but it only stays connected for no more than a minute or so then converts back to Bluetooth connection only which is fine but doesn’t give you all the vehicles screen capability with maps etc

Excellent. This will make it easier.

So, your interface tells me that you have a relatively new firmware running the infotainment system.

The important information is the version, the second-to-last update released for Holden and Opel vehicles specifically call out the flaky Android Auto and CarPlay in some vehicles.

This is important, do you have a "Valet Code" programmed into the system? If so, remove it.

Do you have the owners manual? See page 232 for how to find your software version.

Also, see page 172 for updating the software.

I know nothing of a valet code and there’s no mention of one in the manual, also, the manual says update software at dealership, this was checked at last service About November 2019 and was up to date I was told, next service due in a month or 2 so will get it checked again then (problem has existed prior to last check) I looked for the version and I took 3 pics page 1,2,3 then it goes into pysco babble for the next 400 pages so I took 4 pics of pages 416,417,418,419.....I appreciate your help on this and the time your taking to help

Let me wait to hear back from my friend in the AU. This might take a couple days as it's the weekend.

I don't want to recommend anything until I've gained more familiarity with that specific unit.
