iPad2 Yahoo Mail Broken

iPad2 with Yahoo mail account for many years stopped working this morning.

Login to account rejected password.

Used Safari to access Yahoo mail, same account, same password, no problem.

Deleted Yahoo mail account from iPad.

Attempted to "Add Account", Yahoo, goes through mail address and password, circles for a while, then returns to "Add Account" without adding the account.

Attempted to add Yahoo Mail app, says need iOS 10.0 or later.

iPad2 has iOS 9.3.5, and attempt to update reports already "up to date".

What is broken?

iPad 2 Wi-Fi, iOS 9.3.5

Yahoo is acting up. My mail accounts aren’t working either and give me some line about too many connections.


If I access it via safari then it works fine, but using any third party client isn’t working at the moment. I’ve tried three different ones, apple’s mail, and two other applications, my yahoo mail is not working on any of them


Yahoo has been so very aggressive about ‘encouraging’ people to use thier app I wouldn’t put it past them to do all they can to make using third party applications as challenging as possible.


It may clear up soon or longer....but I can verify that using a browser is a work around until it does.
