I have a 5k imac only a month old. I went to wipe off some finger prints with a moist microfiber cloth and noticed there were these weird straight lines. They seem to wipe away but come back. Never put any chemicals, just water.
FWIW, this doesn't seem to be something that can be diagnosed online. I think your option is to take it to be looked at seeing it's well within the warranty period.
I used the provided microfiber cloth that was made damp with distilled water. No direct liquids or cleaners of any kind. This is my second iMac and im aware of the proper procedure to clean the display. The straight lines are only visible when you either shine a light at the display while its off or very dim. If your not looking at the correct angle you cant even see the lines. But my old imac does not have lines like this anywhere. I wonder if my display had this issue all along and I never noticed it until the first time I went wipe it down. When the display is backlit you cant notice the lines at all. I just can not comprehend what it could be since it will wipe away and slowly come back.
I have already contacted apple and I have to drive an hour and a half to an authorized repair shop. Im more or less just dumbfounded at what is happening since I am unable to find anyone else with this problem. I have seen one other online post about someone who had this issue except the lines were vertical. Was Kind of hoping maybe someone would at least know what is causing this. Im gonna schedule an appointment tomorrow.
Well, it's possible someone had the same issue. The only problem is, they would have to post to ASC or reply to yours and I'm not sure there are that many users with the same issue. Basically, you have to get lucky that someone might respond.
Either way, I hope it gets resolved.
