Problem connecting WD MyBookLive to iMac with OS 10.13.1

User uploaded fileI recently purchased a new iMac with OS 10.13.1. I have not been able to connect this iMac to the WD NAS MyBookLive. My home network is basically an Extreme Airport unit. I have other laptops connected to the network and work with the WD MyBookLive perfectly. My personal MacBook Air connects inmediatelly to the MyBookLive and even use the TimeMachine for backups.

When I open the Finder, the NAS drive shows up as seen on the attached image. When I clic to connect, it shows the error message "There was a problem connecting to the server "name of drive". This file server is available on your computer. Access the volume and files locally.". (see image).

I have tried several possible solutions on the web and the support from WD, with no luck. Please help.

Thank you for your support. I found the answer on another forum. Basically, I need it to Uncheck the File Sharing on the Preferences- Sharing. Apparently, when I transfer the information to the new iMac, the Finder maintain an image or link to that NAS. When the new iMac try to link, it had no Drive connected.

As mentioned previously, I uncheck the Sharing Files on Preferences/Sharing, waiter for a few seconds and the Drive Name disappeared on the Finder. Then the new link to the network drive appears and everything worked great.

Thank you.

Start with basic troubleshooting steps.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later. Please post if this worked or not.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer or by using the developer’s uninstall instructions. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once. Please post if this worked or not.

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown. You can run the report for free at least once, but if you run it several times, at some point it will ask you to pay a license fee.
