Print LaTeX generated pdfs

I am having an issue printing from the Preview app. Any pdf I open in Preview that has been generated from LaTeX prints with odd spacing. This does not happen for me from Adobe Acrobat but I want to be able to use Preview for a variety of reasons I don't want to go into here. (This happens if I generate the file myself or if I open someone else's file.)

I noticed others had the same issue in the past but I don't see any corresponding answers.

See https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6535500?answerId=30208107022#30208107022. I tried to reply to that thread but I guess it is too old.

I tried Restore Standard Fonts in FontBook but that did not help. I also validated my fonts. That did not help either. I am hoping that someone who has seen this before can tell me what to try next.

Odd spacing? Kerning, or line-height spacing? Does this appear on screen with Preview when viewing the PDF, or on output to your printer? Screen shot?

Not accounting for the content of your LaTeX source, or printer issues, I just printed out several PDF that were generated from MacTeX 2017 (TeXShop 3.97) using LaTeX/pdflatex, or LuaLaTeX. No odd appearance in the output, whether viewed in Preview, or printed. The content included documents with embedded .png, .eps, equations, 2-column content, drop cap, IEEE journal, etc.
