Every since upgrading to High Sierra, whenever I save a file to the desk it takes finder a minute or two to actually show that file in the GUI. The file is there (I can see it from terminal) and if I try to save the file again, I get the 'file already exists' warning. What is going on? It sometimes takes two minutes for the file to finally "show" in finder.

It does seem to affect many users. So I would have to say yes. You can always quit Google Backup and Sync and see if you have the same problem.

One possible reason is running one of the Google Drive products.
I do run Google Backup. Do you think this would have an effect even if I am saving files directly to my desktop?

You're welcome. instead of having Google B&S start at login you can always start it on demand.
