iMac Extremely Slow After Updating to High Sierra

Since updating to high sierra a few days ago, I noticed that using my computer is extremely slow. There are delays when typing, constant beach balls appearing, and it even seems that the response for loading a web page is much much slower - that's to name a few symptoms. It's essentially unusable right now. I do have an older Mac but I don't think I want to purchase a new one at this point just because I updated to a new OS. I am posting below my report from EtreCheck. I really appreciate any help that you experts are able to provide. Thank you very much!

Even though Apple has low "minimum" RAM requirements posted, with newer OSX versions you need much more than minimum. I'd go with 8 GB at a realistic minimum.

Get Rid of Clean My Mac. That's what's doing it.

Removal instructions: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7609452?answerId=30410136022#30410136022

Alternatively something like the following may remove it: Malwarebytes - https://www.malwarebytes.com/pricing/ - There are different versions available depending upon what features you want.. For a single removal without ongoing monitoring you can probably use the free version.

Your drive is an older style and I suspect maybe also a slower rotational speed. Others can maybe verify this but I wonder if newer operating systems are optimized for interfacing with SSD drives and using them on a HDD drive slows them down more than using an older system version, particularly if the HDD drives is a 5400 rpm version.

So everything seemed to be much better after that initial advice. A couple days later and I appear to be back to where I was before. The system is almost unusable at times and I find myself spending too much time waiting to be able to do anything. I am attaching a new EtreCheck report again. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Better, but you still have a couple of issues, both showing in your User Login Items. I've made those two bold italic below:

User Login Items:

Dropbox Application (Dropbox, Inc.

(/Applications/Dropbox.app)

iTunesHelper Application (Apple, Inc. - installed 2018-02-15)

(/Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunesHelper.app)

Stamps.com Connect Application (Stamps.com Inc.

(/Applications/Stamps.com Connect.app)

Google Chrome Application (Google, Inc.

(/Applications/Google Chrome.app)

TextExpander Application (SmileOnMyMac, LLC

(/Applications/TextExpander.app)

ATLoginItemHelper SMLoginItem (Mac App Store - installed 2018-02-14)

(/Applications/DrCleaner.app/Contents/Library/LoginItems/ATLoginItemHelper.app)

1) 4GB RAM is insufficient to have Google Chrome in your User Login items. It is a known resource hog on both Mac and Windows systems. Until you get more RAM, remove Chrome from Login items per instructions contained in this Apple article:

macOS Sierra: Open items automatically when you log in

2) Any so-called "cleaning" apps will hurt your performance, and not in a tiny way, even if you got it from the Mac App Store. They are useless, doing nothing the OS can;t do for itself. Completely remove Dr Cleaner per the developer's instructions:

How to uninstall Apps on Mac

If you paid money for that dreck, contact the developer and demand a refund and maybe a first-born child.

Old apps and processes can sometimes slow a computer. Note that a lot of those in the report have dates. Some are old, like SlingPlayer. If you use it, update it. Otherwise dump it.
