Google Calendar items disappearing on Mac OS X 10.13.3 and IOS 11.2.6 Calendars

Folks, it's 20 Feb 2018. In the past 4-5 days, I have run into massive problems with OS X 10.13.3 and IOS 11.2.6 calendars. All machines / IOS devices are using the LATEST updated OS. I'm using Google Apps for my two calendars (paid business accounts). The items from the google hosted calendars have disappeared on my calendars in both my Apple OS X and IOS machines. When I go to Google Apps/Calendars on the browser, the items are all there. When I clear out the Library/cache, eliminate and then re-enable the two calendars on the Mac OS X machines, I can see the cache build up and download/sync with google. Things populate in my calendar on the OS X machines, then about 5-10 seconds after complete download/sync of all items (41.4MB worth), the Mac OS X calendar items just "poof", disappear. I have tried everything I could find on-line. Including seeing if there is a fix for corrupt Google Calendar items / files. NOTHING. Does anyone have a process to follow? I have clean up cache, restarted the machines, reset containers, PRAM reset, etc. NOTHING works. It's like Mac OS X calendar "barfs" at the end of the sync / download (only at the end of the download do the items "poof", go away). The standard public holidays and sport team calendars work with no problem.

yes we tried to do the "sync only one year or x months" like the old outlook calendars would allow us. My work account is full of crazy items that Apple "skimmed" from my emails (ohhh never thought of that...maybe that's what is crashing it as calendar is sucking down events from my tens of thousands of emails).. I know that apple has a limit in size of calendars https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202158 Max size of all calendars (excluding attachments) is 24MB... that's why it's crashing when calendar cache (DB) gets to 32.5MB. Apple is losing the plot here... so between your google forum and this apple support, yes, I'm sure the issue is in this limit... ugh

There is a useful discussion of this in a google user forum (and surely elsewhere):

Evidently there is a new, undocumented and unexplained 10,000 event limit somewhere between the Google CalDAV and the Apple Calendar display. Go back (might be years) in your dysfunctional Apple calendar and you will see your calendar properly populated up to the 10,000 event limit. Should be easy to fix by the powers that be, should they be paying attention. Under Moore's law, limits should be going up, not down!

Folks, just spent 6 hours with Google last week and now 1.5 hours with Apple yesterday 2/27). Did a screen share and they saw me purge on my iMac (10.13.3) cache in library for calendars as well as containers, then activate google apps calendar (form sys prefs / internet accounts as well as from inside the Calendar App) and watched the cache go from 600KB to 32.5MB, along the way, it was populating all items into my calendar... then as it stopped at 32.5MB, everything but one of my daily reoccurring items disappeared. They took the diagnostic info from that (145MB) and were handing it off to their senior tech guys... they know this is an issue after the updates on ~ Feb 17th or so. Something VERY interesting... when I export my calendar from google to my mac, after it's unzipped, it's 12.4MB... but Calendar Caches shows it at 32.5MB... so something is wrong with Calendar and it's inability to STOP syncing the data or sucking down MB of something from the google calendar on the cloud... I proved it was apple's issue with Google as we did delegation with a gmail (free) account I have and it's calendar. Took down the google calendar from the broken account... through delegation on the gmail calendar... no issues.... but that is not good, it's just a stop gap... Apple is to call me back today / tomorrow (Feb 28th / March 1st) after the techs go through the 145MB of sys log data and I'll update... this really stinks, but if we can fix it for others, then I guess karma will come our way 🙂

I called google after trying to fix for 2-3 days. They strongly told me it was an Apple problem. To prove it, my other google apps calendar works syncing with Apple. The broken one works with the google app. I add something to the google app and it populated my apple calendar. So using the google app till it’s fixed. I did ask if a google calendar item could be corrupt. They said it was not if it worked on the google calendar app. PIMA. Still broken. DO NOT use time machine to repopulate the calendar. Or do not export from calendar.google.com. It will resend ALL your your items going way back. One person received 250 invites for past items. Ughhhh. Waiting for google to respond to my request to see if data corrupt

Exact same problem, also started early morning on Feb 20. Macbook Pro, 10.13.3 with all the recent updates, have deleted all discoverable preferences, caches, entire calendar folders, etc., uninstall/reinstall google account, etc, etc, and Calendar always repopulates with all events, and then in a few seconds they disappear. All fine on the Google/Android side. And yes, all recurring events and holidays are there, and new events sync TO Google CalDAV but disappear after going the other way. Doesn't seem to be one of the standard usual sync problems, with a known solution -- this is something new. Giving up and switching to using Google calendar as the workaround until this is fixed.

For what it's worth, I'm having the same issue, only with MacOS 10.12.6 (16G1114). As with you, the issue just emerged in the past week or so. One thing I've noticed is that the problem does not apply to recurring calendar events: after Mac Calendar caches all events it does not then purge recurring events. Also this issue is not happening on my iPhone using iOS 10.3.3.
