iOS 11.3 - Delete Message Confirmation

The newest iOS 11.3 update enables a feature that asks if you're sure you want to delete a text message/iMessage once you choose the delete option. It's making me crazy! I tried searching through the settings to remove this deletion confirmation, but can't find anything on the topic. Is there any way to remove this feature?

No one is preventing you from deleting texts, blocking people or muting alerts. Rather, a half a second has been added to the deletion process. Nothing one needs to get histrionic about.

So you're ok with the company that built your $1000 phone having ulterior motives in adding that "half second" delay and then telling you no, you can't turn it off?

And your use of the word "histrionic" is contextually irrelevant though it did look cool.

Ulterior motives? You mean helping people avoid deleting texts with a very simple and oh so not time consuming confirm you really want to delete the message? If those are ulterior motives, I've clearly missed the meaning of ulterior motives all these years. I see this as nothing but helpful. Helpful to the people who accidentally delete text messages EVERY single day. Helpful to people like me and the other people like me who come here daily to help those people see if they may be able to retrieve those important messages.

What "ulterior motives" might those be, exactly?

And how is the use of "histrionic" in the sentence "Nothing one needs to get histrionic about" contextually irrelevant. It is completely relevant, since the level of indignation regarding this step is completely out of proportion to the thing itself - i.e., we have a lot of melodrama going on here - hyperbole as well as angst.

This is what apple does, they come up with these silly annoying little features, then when the new iPhone comes out, they make new and improved changes so you buy the new iphone, just a money making sche

Huh?! that makes no sense at all.

Nope. Makes less than no sense. The reality is if people are truly getting this worked up over something so simple, they're not going to buy a new iPhone, which will have the same "silly annoying little features." No, they'll buy another platform, like Android. But Android has required this "silly annoying little feature" since like forever. This is one place where Apple caught up to Android.

It makes perfect sense. What I’m saying is that they get rid of those annoying little features when creating the next iPhone and call it an upgrade so you buy the latest iPhone. It’s their scheme to make more money.

That's total utter nonsense. And this "annoying little feature" is going nowhere and for very good reason. Pity you can't possibly look past your nose to see the benefit it provides so many people.

So you are saying that if you buy a new phone (hardware) it won’t have this SOFTWARE feature. Utterly ridiculous and nonsense. Please give an example where your scenario has played out in the past.

What a hugely disappointing example of messing with UX. One interaction to three...?! Fail.

Please explain from your experience, how it went from one interaction to three to begin with? Perhaps the fail is your inability to count?

So, let's see how this changed things:

1. Open Messages App (Step One)

2. Select Message to Delete (Step Two)

3. Swipe to bring up Delete or Hide Alerts (Step Three)

4. Tap Delete (Step 4)

5. Now here's where it gets life altering different: Tap Confirm to Delete (Step 5)

It’s ridiculous. It’s an engineer who decided it was a cool feature and doesn’t understand how quickly we want to delete crap...and get on our way. Argh. This is typical.

Because you apparently didn't read the thread, I'll explain. It wasn't added because it was "cool". It was added because, now, with iCloud syncing, if you delete a message, it's gone forever. It's not in a back up. It's gone.

And, seriously, does the extra half a second really matter that much?
