iOS 11.3 - Delete Message Confirmation

The newest iOS 11.3 update enables a feature that asks if you're sure you want to delete a text message/iMessage once you choose the delete option. It's making me crazy! I tried searching through the settings to remove this deletion confirmation, but can't find anything on the topic. Is there any way to remove this feature?

Every so often Apple comes up with a "Feature" that so small and so annoying that begs the question as to whether they ever consult with a user. YES! Delete confirmation is an unnecessary addition to IOS and we can only hope that some security patch will remove it

No, Apple doesn't consult with users. Instead, they see what users do with their phones and often introduce features based on what they perceive as a real need. This is one such feature. Daily, multiple users come here to these user only forums begging for help to recover an accidentally deleted text message. In most cases, the only way to get the message back is to restore from backup, which often people simply don't have.

So, this very small change was introduced to help the countless thousands of users to ensure when they use swipe to delete that they truly do want to delete the message.

Are you aware there is another simple method to delete messages that will not ask you to confirm you want to delete? Yes, Apple provided the best of BOTH worlds to users. Simply use the Edit/Tap Messages(s)/Tap Trash icon and voila, message(s) delete without confirmation. That can't be any more cumbersome could it? It's three steps, just like it was before on swipe to delete.

Let's see if I can shed some light:

1. When you delete an email message you do confirm you want to delete and even then the email is held in a trash bin for complete deletion, again making sure you fully wanted to delete said email message. When you delete a text message, it's gone, unless you have a backup with the message and even then requires you to restore your phone from the that backup, deleting anything else you've put on your phone since that backup was made.

2. Notes are also stored in the cloud (you can confirm by going to www.icloud.com) but messages are not, so again, one has a way of getting a note back, but not a text message.

As to your suggestion to have a toggle option, I would have no issue with that. But you're arguing with users on a user to user ONLY forum. You're not speaking with Apple and Apple isn't paying diddly squat to your post here.

Arguing here is a point in futility. You are as welcome to let Apple know you don't like this as I was to thank them (yes I did thank them) for adding this by providing input via this link: Feedback - iPhone - Apple

Isn't that the greatest? No more messages accidentally deleted!

It is absolutely the greatest! First much better Wifi and Bluetooth control and now this! Maybe the number of "help me I accidentally deleted a very important text message and need it back" threads will no longer be necessary!!

Really Apple. Your attitude and customer service is less than desired. Give your customers what you want not give your customers what they want. It’s not innovative and dictatorship. Whom ever is typing this should be fired.

Their attitude and customer service is excellent. They are giving their customers what they want.

Yes, you should be fired.

Tell that to the steady stream of people who have posted over the past 10 years that they accidentally deleted an important message thread.

To help strengthen Lawrence's point... Witness the irony.

To all who are myopically complaining about this change, please accept there are other people in the world.

Should behave the same as email and allow users to turn the "feature" on or off. This was a terrible idea.

How 'you' think it should work is irrelevant. This is how Apple chose to do it. If you don't like it, feel free to provide feedback to Apple directly via the link that has been shared multiple times in this thread.

Unnecessary new feature. I hope Apple fixes this quickly.

Interesting. Another newbie with no knowledge of what the bulk of the users prefer.

Don't be silly. Everyone likes the same thing as they do! People who have a different opinion are just wrong!

Yes, of course, and they know this from their vast experience reading posts on the forum.

For the record, anyone who thinks brussel sprouts is actually food is also wrong.

Here. I fixed that for you!

Fake news!!!!!

Isn't it an anti-food? You consume more calories chewing it than you gain by ingesting it.

Everyone knows that celery is just a peanut butter delivery device.

There is nothing to fix. It is working exactly as Apple intended it to work. This was not accidental. And, while I can't guess what Apple will do in the future, most likely it will continue working this way for many years, because I believe it is Apple's response to the fact that users have been complaining for years that they accidentally deleted messages and the have no way of getting them back. I consider a great new feature.

However, you can make your opinion known to Apple by using https://apple.com/feedback. Posting in this user to user forum is a total waste of time, because Apple does not use it as a source for feedback. BTW, I have posted feedback thanking them for this change.
