iMovie 10.1.8 crashes fix

My iMovie 10.1.8 was crashing everytime I opened it. It was still crashing after I reinstalled it half a dozen times, and rebooted my machine. I also deleted preferences by starting up iMovie while hold down the option & command keys down. Still crashing.

I'm on a laptop and have two large monitors connected. On a different thread someone mentioned they unplugged their monitor via thunderbolt, I did that for the mac display... still crashed... so I unplugged the HDMI to the other monitor and relied solely on my laptop, and after clearing preferences one last time, it worked.

For whatever reason, monitors connected via thunderbolt or HDMI cause iMovie to crash.

If you launch with the laptop lid open, iMovie should open and then you can close the laptop lid. As Jim says, this is a known problem when using external monitors that hopefully Apple will address.
