The item can't be copied because it's too large for the volume's format

First off Mac specs because everybody seems to need those: Macbook Pro 13" OsX El Capitan mid 2010 model

Hi everybody, i'm having an issue with certain USB drives connected to my Mac which I never used to have problems with.
I have a 32 GB USB, and 19 GB free space on it.

I have a 7 GB MOV file from a camera I am trying to copy over to the USB but I get this message "The item can't be copied because it's too large for the volume's format". But there is 19 GB free space on it so it should fit right???
The file is not copy protected, locked or "read only" it's from a friend's camera that he wants me to edit. I converted it fine but it just won't copy, however I have recently starting to have other issues on certain USBs as well.

I have seen other threads on this issue, but they just get people to erase the USB entirely, I don't want to do that, I have a lot of important files on it. The usb is "Read and Write" so it should copy but the file shows up grey and in "zero bytes".

The file is still playable on my Mac.

If anyone can help me resolve this issue without me having to delete everything on it, that would be much appreciated, many thanks!

Drives formatted as FAT32 can’t accomodate files that are 4GB or larger regardless of how much free space they have. This can’t be changed without erasing the volume.

In any case, files you’d like to keep should be on at least two drives. One may fail at any time.
