software update launcher will not shut down

I have a Mac Book pro 2017 13.3 with touch bar - all fine for the first couple of days.

I tried to download the macOS High Sierra 10.13.3 supplemental update from the app store and now when I either shut down or restart, the computer hangs on a black screen with "SoftwareUpdateLauncher" in the top right of the screen.

I have tried safe mode, I have tried a reinstall of the mac OS - not a complete wipe but a re-install - however nothing works - it still hangs.

Anyone else have a fix for this - other than don't shut down?

I had the same problem on 10.13.3 update and the supplemental update. Hours trying different things and Apple elevated to senior advisor. She found buried in the forums someone using Enter/Return. When hung I hit Enter/Return when it hung up in the SoftwareUpdateLauncher (had to do nothing else), it proceeded to install as it was suppose to do. Stupid simple but not among our usual list of options to try. Good luck
