Possible to Open HTML Table in Numbers?

Hello,

We have a web tool that allows us to download our staff directory as a file. The file has an XLS extension, but it is actually just an HTML file containing a table with the staff data. Now this file opens properly in Excel, no matter the extension used. However, it doesn't look like it will open in Numbers. We have tried various extensions with no success.

Is there any way to open an HTML table within Numbers? We are trying to eliminate our MS Office license cost this year, but this could be a bit of a sticking point. No, we have checked and there is no way to change the web tool to change the format of the download.

Thanks for any help in this matter.

I am not able to test right now, but could you just use an online HTML table to csv converter? I found this one with a quick google search.

the list of file types available for numbers is listed here.
