Cannot use bold or indent when composing an email on my MacBook Air, both are greyed out?

Hi,

I cannot use the bold or indent when composing an email on my MacBook Air (purchased in 2013). They are both greyed out?

I am using the macOS High Sierra.

MacBook Air, iOS 10.3.3

Mac Mail Mac Mail using current - OS Monterey 12.5 - OS. Open mail, click on Inbox on left, select an email and click - highlighting it. BUT, the text of the message will not appear for several minutes. "Main pane" shows the heading of the email (from/to) but not the text of the email. Been happening for several months, as has the spinning pinwheel - may take 10-20 seconds for for a webpage to load. Mac is 2015 model: perhaps internals going bad with time?

Bold not working in Macmail and Text/edit Hi there, I found a thread on this but with no answers as to how to solve it, I'm hoping someone has a good idea? I can no longer use the 'bold' formatting function when composing an email - I try to click it, or use shortcut key, but nothing happens. Same in Textedit program. I've tried different fonts but still nothing. It's very frustrating! Any help would be greatly appreciated. My laptop is a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) and I'm running MacOS Monterey vs 12.0.1 thanks! Hannah

You may be using a font that doesn't support them.
