Unexpected Error Occurred When setting up an Airport Extreme Extension

I've,had,a,wireless,network,created,with,an,Airport,Extreme,1408,extended,wirele ssly,by,an,Airport,Extreme,1301., This,arrangement,worked,fine.

I decided to upgrade my current wireless network (consisting of an Airport Extreme A1408 extended by an Airport Extreme A1301) by adding an Airport Extreme A1521 that was never taken out of the box.

I set up the new Airport and made sure that the new network was operating correctly. Then I tried to extend the network with the older models after hard resets. During the setup process on Airport Utility, both older Airport Extremes experience an Unexpected Error. I have done multiple resets of the Airports, of the modem and of the iMac I'm using to configure to no avail.

Looking for more troubleshooting tips. I'm pulling my hair out.

I don't understand why the OSX Airport Utility kept failing me.

There are a lot more "bugs" in OS X AirPort Utility than there are in iOS AirPort Utility. Or, another way to say the same thing......the iOS version of AirPort Utility is more stable and reliable than the OS X version.

If you want, we can check some of the IPv6 settings on your Mac to see if a manual setting will work better than the usual "Automatic" setting for AirPort setup purposes. But, if things are working OK now, you might want to leave well enough alone.

I set up the new Airport and made sure that the new network was operating correctly.

The new AirPort Extreme is still operating normally......is that correct?

Then I tried to extend the network with the older models after hard resets

Will the two older AirPorts extend the network by connecting back to the main AirPort Extreme using wireless connections.....or.....using wired Ethernet connections?

During the setup process on Airport Utility, both older Airport Extremes experience an Unexpected Error.

Does the Unexpected Error occur before you can set up either of the older AirPorts, or are you able to go through the setup, and the Unexpected Error occurs when you try to update the older AirPorts with the new settings?

What operating system is installed on your Mac? Or, are you using an iPhone / iPad for the setup of the older AirPorts?

Yes, the new Airport Extreme is operating normally.

The older Airports will extend the network wirelessly.

The Unexpected Error occurs before they are actually set up. However, both have updated firmware.

My iMac is running 10.13.3.

Meanwhile, As I was configuring my iPad to use the new network, I was asked by the iPad Wi-Fi settings if I wanted to configure a new Airport. I followed along and one was set up rather quickly with no errors. Then back to the mac to set up Airport #3 - Same error messages. So, back to the iOS where I set up #3 easily.

While I seem to be set now, I don't understand why the OSX Airport Utility kept failing me.
