MacOS High Sierra 10.13.3 additional update issue: normal shutdown or restart is no longer working on iMac

The initial macOS 10.13.3 update was executed correctly but the second additional update 10.13.3 requests a restart of the mac which does no longer seem to work.
A shutdown or restart now results into a black screen where the cursor gets repositioned at the left upper corner of my screen. You can still move the cursor but anything else is impossible.

It looks like macOS cannot shutdown the window server process.
The only option is to use the power button to shutdown or restart.

As the restart procedure does not seem to work correctly, even the 10.13.3 combo-update does not seem to execute.

There are a number of error in the logging in Console that also do not look ok 😟:

Problem solved!🙂

I looks like the blocking problem was effectively caused by the errors "LaunchServices: Database mapping failed with result -10813".

The solution was described in the following thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7421012?start=15&tstart=0at the end:

  1. sudo mkdir /private/var/db/lsd
  2. sudo /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.fra mework/Support/lsregister -kill -seed -lint -r -f -v -dump -domain local -domain system -domain user -domain network

The restart that is needed to complete the 10.13.3 installation does not work.
I tried safe boot but that does not work either.
The only way to reboot is by using the power button or via sudo shutdown -r now via the terminal.
But with none of these two options I can get the system update completed.
Kind regards.
