Backing up iPhone 7

I am having an issue backing up my iPhone 7. iTunes is up to date. Phone is also up to date. Every time I try to update on the Mac I get a message that says “iTunes could not back up the iPhone “iPhone” because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone. Delete the backup for this iPhone in devices preferences, then try again” The thing is I’ve never backed up on the Mac before. So there is no back up on the computer at all for my iPhone. I used to back up on my windows pc but I can’t now as it’s not a windows 7 pc. I don’t use the pc anymore so don’t want to buy windows 7 just to back up my phone when I have a Mac. I tried doing the iCloud back up but not enough space, even though nothing on iCloud. Only have the free storage as don’t use it. Apart from totally deleting everything on my phone is there any way to back up this phone. Thank you in Advance.

iPhone 7, iOS 11.2.6

I’d first check the backup directory on your Mac.

  1. Open the Finder
  2. In the Main Menu > Go > Hold alt key, Library menu item appears.
  3. Click Library.
  4. Navigate to Application Support/MobileSync/Backup and locate the iPhone backup. It should be a folder named with your device UDID.

Here is how it should look:

User uploaded file

If it contains a folder with your device UDID, simply delete this backup and start clean with a new iTunes backup.

If you don't know your iPhone UDID, let me know, I can help
