Every time I open a link in email, I am asked if I want to use Safari or to "get" Chrome. Even when I click on "Do not ask me every time" it still asks. How do I stop this? I do not want anything to do with Chrome....ever.

Correct, the iOS default browser is Safari, and that cannot be altered. But Google’s own apps will routinely prompt you to use Google products where applicable. So I’ll ask again, are you using a gmail account? And are you using Google’s email app?
Both gmail app and icloud. Having said that, I have been using both since the beginning and this just started happening. I cannot find anywhere that stops it. I click off the part that says to ask every time but it does not seem to last.
Open the gmail app. Tap on the menu icon in the upper left, scroll down and tap Settings, then Google app settings. Select Safari, and turn off the switch "ask me which app to use every time".

There us no option for default browser that I can find. It has always been safari. This started just recently, last update.
The Google Mail app is well known for that prompt. As far as I know, you cannot disable it. That’s why I have my gmail accounts set up in the iOS mail app and stopped using Google’s mail app.
