I read that there should be an Address Book app on my Mac but it isn't listed in the applications list. can it be downloaded to the MacBook Pro

If you're running 10.8 or newer, use Contacts instead.

If you're running 10.7.5 or earlier, restore it from a backup or reinstall the OS.
