Garageband external input problems

Audio input device problems in Garageband:

(using late 2014 Mac Mini on High Sierra)

Audio track type MIC - (Input 1- Unknown USB audio device) selected and records fine:

2nd track:

Audio track type Guitar requires Audio device input to be changed:

iRig selected as Input 2 and guitar records fine.

However, this then causes the vocal track MIC input too also change to iRig, all be it as Input 1???

Obviously I've not been able to record both inputs at once due to this problem.

I'd be grateful to hear of any solution to this?

(Akai MPK Mini II working fine via USB)

Mac mini, iOS 11.2.6

you can only choose a single device for input in GB. what you would need to do is create an virtual "aggregate" device comprised of both your interfaces.

this under 2 minute video shows how to create one (the GUIs may differ from what your system shows due to OS versions, but it should get you on the right track)...

I've known how to do what you suggest with this video for a while now, but when I ran my last upgrade I started having issues with using aggregate devices. I've recreated it with no luck. The issues I run into are some inputs are randomly not available on some tracks (vocal and instrument input). I am using a USB Samson Meteor Mic and a 1/4" guitar to USB cable as inputs. Individually both of these work without any problem. Is this a known issue for one of the recent OS or GarageBand upgrades?
