Adjusting finder icon

For my Finder folders I manually change the Finder icon to images of my chosing.

Recently, the Finder icon automatically reshapes the icon in a square, which makes the image out of proportion since the original image is rectangular.

Does anyone why this happens and how do I ensure the Finder icon will be in the shape as I copy the image?

Finder icon view only displays a single column In my finder, for certain folders, it will only display a single column of icons, regardless of icon size or grid spacing. Even if I extend the finder window all the way across the screen, there's a single column of icons. Is there any way to get this to present in a grid? icons spread out when moving from finder to desktop So, for my job I combine a lot of files into one singular file. The easiest way for me to do this is to click and drag the files from finder and then I move them to the desktop. When I click and drag the icons to the desktop they spread out into no concernable pattern and its just random and weird. However, if I drag the files back to finder and then back to the desktop they stay in a nice, neat orderly horizontal line. How can I change it so it NEVER spreads them out randomly and they always just show as an orderly line? Not sure who would even want that feature. 🥴

This is an ongoing problem with High Sierra, and it is not known whether it will ever be addressed.
