US Holidays calendar has been hacked

The US Holidays calendar seems to have been hacked. If you follow the instructions for subscribing to holidays using the Language and Regions Preference panel and Calendar Preferences, the resulting US Holiday calendar shows more than US Holidays, it includes phases of the moon and has errors, for example: 2 March displays "Holi"

Is there a better source of holidays?

It appears Apple's late February response to the outcry at the removal of religious holidays (which only represented Christian events) from the calendar was to put holidays for all major religions on the calendar. Subscribe to a calendar that only has what you want.

It has not been "hacked".

The addition of religious holidays for ALL major religions seems to be a reaction to ranting from "Christians" upset that Easter was not on the US holiday calendar even though it is NOT a recognized holiday by the US government.

If you're unhappy with what you see, unsubscribe from that calendar and subscribe to one of the many available calendars out there that gives you what you want.

After giving the matter some thought, I have decided to create my own hoiliday calendar that contains the holidays and special days that are important to me. For example, although I am not religious, Easter is a special day for many others and affects what I can expect to be going on around me. Holi would not. There are state holidays that are important also.

That sounds like an excellent solution.
