external disks - crash

I have both an iMac (2011) and a Mac Book Air (2012); They both work perfectly with High Sierra 10.13.3, but regularly crash when I hook up external drives (Lacie Porsche 2TB and LaCie 6TB)... Is there a fix ?

external hard drive ejected repeatedly I have an almost new Seagate 4T external hard drive connected to my new 2021 iMac which I use as both a Time Machine backup location, and as storage for my video files, music and photo libraries (the new iMac doesn't have enough storage). Since I migrated and transferred data from an early 2019 iMac I keep getting alerts that the "Disc was ejected improperly". Sometimes this happens when the Finder still shows the external drive is connected, and sometimes the drive is booted off and the computer doesn't recognize it until I unplug the device and replug it back in. A few moments later it shows up, and my Music and Photos apps are again usable. I can still see the Time Machine backups are working, but the reoccurring ejections are a nuisance, and I am concerned something else is afoot. Any thoughts? Thank you!

External Disk not ejected properly 21.5" iMac running latest ios. Seagate external drive for backup. Seagate had an update recently that required ejecting the drive. I ejected the drive, it no longer showed on the desktop, and unplugged the drive. Restarted the iMac and plugged in the drive. Now I get messages about the External drive not properly ejected. Finer shows the drive and the proper contents. Any ideas why I would be getting these messages? Thanks.

"Disk not ejected properly" My Mac mini occasionally ejects the external USB HHD, I do my time machine back ups on it and I get a message saying the drive was not ejected properly. Its a NEW 5Tb drive by Seagate, I have tried plugging the USB into different ports at the back of the base unit, but it still happens. It comes with a program called NTFS for Mac, would this cause a disconnecting issue?
