locked out of iphone 7, voiceover saying letters after usual 6 digit passcode

Hi, I am locked out of my iPhone 7. I enter the usual 6 digit code, and the voiceover speaks 3 letters after the 6th digit is pressed. I cannot go into settings for any of the solutions. I am not connected to internet.
The voiceover tells me the time.

I used voiceover last night to read a story, and now I cannot use my phone at all ! Please help. Susan

Hello SusanMPSI,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities for help. I was able to test this and am willing to offer some things to try.

If you have a fingerprint set up, that should get you in without needing the passcode. If you don't have a fingerprint set up, or it isn't working, then you need to tap one time on the number you need. When the circle is highlighting the correct number, double tap it. Then, tap one time on the next number. Once highlighted, double tap it. Continue this process until you get your passcode entered.

This process is necessary because the first tap selects the option, then the double tab activates it. This is explained in the manual here: iPhone User Guide - VoiceOver basics

Activate an item: Tap once to select an item, then double-tap to activate it.

Thanks and have a wonderful day.
