Repeatedly asked to verify Apple ID- WHY?

When my screen is locked, I get a message several times a day that says; "Enter your Apple ID password in Settings." What is the purpose of this?? I'm not even on my phone.... is someone trying to hack into my phone from somewhere else?

It just means that your settings got updated and you need to enter in your Apple ID. You can do so by clicking on the notification. Do you get the notification again after you enter in your information?
