blinking white folder with ? mark on start up

I have a late 2013 iMac 21.5 and i wanted to put osx lion on it witch was the original os on there but because Sierra was on it I was unable to so I thought if I remove the hard drive and plug it into a docking station and then plug that into my 2015 iMac I can erase the drive then try restore it with lion but I don't know what I've done but now when I put it back it won't load pass the ? folder please help

iPod touch, iOS 6.0.1
