DND Except contacts for calls and text

is there any way to allow only calls and text notifications from everyone in my contacts? I have hundreds of contacts. I tried turning on DND except for contacts but I get no notifications on text. I don’t want to add them to emergency since they will ring the phone plus I have to do that for each contact. Is there a better solution? I’m trying to stop spam calls but still let all text messages through.
