crash occurs every time phone goes into standby, I have read similar issue is happening with other users and have yet to see a resolve for this problem besides a recommendation to pay for tech support which I have not found evidence to be a solution either. Crashing only started about two days after updating to iOS 11.2.6. Has there been any fix for this issue?

Basic troubleshooting:
Restart, Reset, Restore from backup and Restore as new.
And if what razmee209 provided does not help, then make a Genius Bar appointment at the nearest Apple Store. That has no cost, so I'm not sure who recommended you pay for tech support. After Apple examines the phone, they will explain your options.
