how do i get itunes on my mac to allow me to sort iphone playlists.

hi,

i've never figured out how to do this.

i have my phone connected to my laptop.

i can manipulate/sort songs on the 'main playlist' for my laptop but can do nothing on the connected iphone playlist.

i've tried changing the iphone setting to manually manage song but that wipes my phone tunes clean.

I don't want that.

I've tried reauthorizing the computer but that doesn't work.

if i create a library just for the phone it will work, but i'd like to have one library where all my content can be accessed. Is this possible.

I'm running a iphone 6 using 10.3.3

and a macbookpro running 10.11.6

I don't want to upgrade either of my devices.

Can someone help me?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), 16 GB ram
