iPhone and Apple Watch and Health data

I just noticed that for the last month the Steps in the health app is sourced from both my iPhone and my watch. I would expect my iPhone to provide the data when I wasn’t wearing my watch, but it happens throughout the day, even when I am wearing it.

Looking back through the data, it seems this started in mid February. Prior to that, I almost never see the iPhone as a source for steps.

Is this normal?

Anyone?

Below is a screen capture I took today. I was wearing the watch the whole time, so why are there any steps recorded by my iPhone?

Also of alarm is that my Watch indicates 5,521 steps so far. The Activity App on my phones shows the same number, but the Health app on my phone shows 6,312. I suspect the difference might be the steps sourced from my phone.
