Roland USB MIDI Digital Piano driver causing slow performance in macOS High Sierra?

Has anyone encoutered issues with the Roland USB Digital Piano MIDI driver with macOS High Sierra?

I was having major performance issues with my MacBook Pro -- kernel_task taking up all the CPU after wake from sleep or a restart, and taking up to half an hour to settle down.

I did a hard disk erase and clean install, and the issue went away. As soon as I reinstalled the Roland USB MIDI driver, the issue came back -- even when nothing was connected to the Mac. Uninstalling fixed the issue.

Roland tells me they haven't heard of this issue before. Has anyone else?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS High Sierra (10.13.3), Mid 2012, MacBookPro10,1
