Yes I read that article on medium.com. Maybe not for the faint hearted.
I suspect Booting into Recovery and re-installing the macOS on top of your exist macOS, will complete the task.
This leaves all the user data untouched. Always advise to have backup plan in place.
You can force quit the computer by holding the power button for an extended amount, then try again.
If no sucess boot into Recovery (command R).
