USB C Digital AV multiport adapter with no hdmi response

Hi everyone.

I've had the Apple USB C Digital AV multiport adapter for about 6 months now and it worked perfectly fine up until today. There seems to be no response whenever I connect a hdmi cable to the adapter. The external monitor goes on for about 1 min and then loses connection. Sometimes the external monitor doesn't receive a signal at all and stays off.

I've done a SMC and a NVRAM reset but the issue is persisting. I've tested the hdmi cable with another adapter on the macbook pro 2016 and then the issue is resolved. Is it safe to assume that the USB C Digital AV multiport adapter is broken? The computer recognises when a usb is connected to the adapter but no response with the hdmi cable.
