I have lost some files since updating to High Sierra

Since I have updated to High Sierra I have lost some files in a few folders. They do not show up where they are supposed to be.

Power Book Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

I understand but I surmise I was not clear: if you are using Time Machine you do not need to have your external drive available all the time. Time Machine creates "local snapshots" that can be used to retrieve files you may have lost in the exact same manner as retrieving them from the external Time Machine backup drive. Read about it here: About Time Machine local snapshots - Apple Support. Restoring files, folders, or even entire systems works the same way. It just can't create as many backups, and its backup date range won't be as long as those on the external drive.

I have some files that I have put on my Mac Powerbook but I have been out of town and have not been able to run Time Machine. So no they are not on Time Machine. I have been able to open MS Word and get them back that way. The other three documents are .JPG documents. The folder where I saved them is empty. I have not gone to look for them very much yet. I was surprised that they were not in the folder where I saved them. I just did a search for the files and they showed up where I had saved them. But I was concerned that they were not there where I had saved the files. I have been having all kinds of problems since I have upgraded to High Sierra. It makes me half way wish I had not upgraded to High Sierra. There has been several small things that have been going on. I do not remember all the problems that I have been having.

When you remember those other problems, please write back and describe them.

As long as you are using Time Machine on a compatible Mac (I assume you mean a MacBook and not a PowerBook) it creates "local snapshots" that can be used to potentially retrieve lost files. It works the same way: just navigate to the appropriate folder, "Enter Time Machine" and look for them.

I am using Time Machine on a MacBook Pro. I have an external hard drive which I have left at home. I am out of town for a while. I do not have my external hard drive with me so Time Machine has not been doing my back ups. These documents I created since I have been away from home. I think I have found the documents that were missing. I did a search for them and they showed up. I am concerned that there may be more documents that may be missing that I am not aware of. I have been having several small problems since I have upgraded to High Sierra. I cannot remember all of them right now. If I find more I will ask some more questions. Thanks for your help.

I assume you have a Time Machine or equivalent backup from which you can restore them. Do they appear there?
