I need help please. The names of my contacts are not coming up when I message them it just shows their number not the name.

I am needing help with my messages. My contact names are not coming though on my messages. It shows their number but not their names. Once I am reading the message it will show their pic or initials at the top but when I look at the list of messages it’s all numbers. Someone please help!!

Hi betsy6975!

I understand that contact names are not showing in Messages, and I'm happy to help.

First, check to see if your contacts appear in the Contacts app. You can find the Contacts app in the Extras folder, or access them through the Phone app > Contacts.

If your contacts are present in Contacts, restart your iPhone as described here: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you do not see your contacts in Contacts, check to see if you are using a sync service, like iCloud or an email account, that may have gotten turned off.

You can check for iCloud Contacts under Settings > Apple ID, iCloud, iTunes & App Store (at the top of the Settings pane) > iCloud > Contacts. If the toggle switch is off, turn it on and restart your iPhone. If it's already on, turn it off, restart your iPhone, then turn it back on again. If your Contacts don't populate after checking iCloud, check to see if an email account may have your contacts stored. You can go directly to your email provider website to check for the contacts there. You can also go to Settings > Mail > Accounts, select your email account, and see if the Contacts toggle is enabled there. If not, turn it on and restart your iPhone. If it is, turn it off, restart your iPhone, then turn it back on again.
