I need to use a mouse with my ipad pro. What gives?

I know this has been a question before. Has Apple pulled their head out yet and made it possible to pair a mouse with this thing. I have things to do and little time for what the world will be like in the future. Right now I need a mouse to work with my ipad pro. Or send me some kind of futuristic device that allows me to place my cursor where I want it without having to reach out and touch the **** display everytime i want move something or cut and paste or select an object, etc. The pen has it's moments but touch screens are for drawing not for a replacement to the mouse. I would like a pair of glasses that know exactly what my eyes are looking at within a micron and then when I blink that would place the cursor then I could say "select next word" and it would just do that. You know or,.... maybe for now a mouse....

YES---you can use a mouse. You just have to step outside the bubble.

Swiftpoint GT Mouse.

Imagine that! Someone recognized that there is a world of need out there and created a product to fit the need. Furthermore, worldwide companies, like TEAMVIEWER, spent their own capital in recognition of the need, and created applications to fill the VOID that bubble people can't see.

You can use a select few mice and select remote desktop apps for support in a Remote Desktop session. But that‘s it. You cannot use a mouse in iOS itself, nor for any of the 99.9999% of the 2 million plus non-remote desktop apps in the App Store.

So for those people who are not interested at all in a remote desktop session app and are asking about using a mouse in iOS and iOS Apps, you’re answer is completely off target and simply incorrect.

I took the comment to mean he was suggesting MichelPM was being rude. The definition of insolence is as follows:

"Insolence is an act of or the trait of being a jerk, especially to someone you should respect."

MichelPm was not rude and whether he should have shown the Poster a higher degree of respect is questionable. I saw no lack of respect in the response.

“The real question is, should a user really adapt to OS, or maybe OS should adapt to the user!?”

With any operating system ever created, it is some of both. Those developing the OS will evolve it with updates over time, but they will never be able to meet every wish, desire or expectation form every user - no OS is infinitely customizable. So, every user needs to understand the capabilities and limitations of the OS they choose to use.

Quite honestly, if it were any other way, we would not have alternate operating systems persisting for so long and the market would have converged on one standard long ago. Windows, BSD, Linux, Chrome OS, MacOS, Android, iOS, etc are all different for reasons based on the hardware they’re tailored to, the creative vision of the developers, the intended end-user, the intended input interface, and so forth.

iOS from inception (actually, from before it even was “iOS”) to this day was intended as a touch interface operating system - https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2007/01/09Apple-Reinvents-the-Phone-with-iPhone/

iPhone is a revolutionary and magical product that is literally five years ahead of any other mobile phone,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We are all born with the ultimate pointing device—our fingers—and iPhone uses them to create the most revolutionary user interface since the mouse.

I usually stay away from the word "never" most of the time but I do agree editing a document without mouse support has implications. I bought the 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 with keyboard folio 3rd gen and  mouse 2 and when I work for more than 4 hours on it, working on documents, I started developing neck pain because of having to reach out all the time to touch the screen. So as you said, for other types of work yes it works well but for editing documents where you have to touch all the time, and over a longer hours, it does not do it for me, so, I'll be doing those on my Mac. If no pointing device is done, then it means my iPad will not likely come close to replacing my Mac. Apple said never no to stylus, we now have Apple Pencil so lets see.

Thanks for the reply ilovedaisies. That presents another neck pain for me, having to look slightly down so that scenario won't work for me. When I look down on my lap, when the iPad Pro is on my lap for long, it presents neck problems too. However the keyboard folio is lovely using on the lap and very stable so that's why the only time I stop using it is when I get the neck pain

That's an interesting patent and we will just have to see if it will see the light of day. The patent seems to support touch on the keyboard folio and also accommodate mouse support. I would prefer the keyboard folio because that would mean one less device to carry around.

I use the iOS trackpad a lot on my iPhone but since I got the keyboard folio for the iPad Pro, i hardly use the soft keyboard as the iPad is usually always attached to the keyboard.

You are very right with the MacBook. I actually thought hard before buying the New iPad Pro 2018. However, I went for he iPad Pro because it has also really allowed me to go paperless. So I do all my writing on it and it's been amazing honestly. I use  Notes heavily for writing and Notability is just cool because I work well now with all online documents especially filling online forms and signing them. So, that was the shortfall of the Macbook but the Macbook met all other criteria as it was light, had trackpad, battery last long...etc. I have a MacBook Air from 2013 and its' still pristine but the battery has taken a beating. I mean its now 6 years old and still manages to put out 4-5 hours on a single charge.

So when upgrading I weighed all those things and decided to go for the iPad Pro because wherever I am with it, am with all my office capabilities completely. I work with a lot of office and pdf documents so have the need to edit them, sign off and send back to my to colleagues and team. I so like it because it has freed me from printing all the time.

So, let's see what they say in June, either way the iPad Pro is just amazing and lack of mouse support won't make a dent. I'll just restructure my work flow and plan well, leaving heavier working on documents to the Mac, and the rest for the iPad.

Hey ilovedaisies. Wow, you literally posted this as I finished watching the same video just now :-D and I actually watched it to see ideas on mouse support. I follow him, he gives awesome advice on the new iPad Pro. I know about keyboard shortcuts and use them a lot. In fact, when I got the iPad Pro this year, it met my needs till I started doing really work with word documents. Shortcuts on word are your basics such as styles, saving, cut and paste, formatting such as bold, italics, find, copy, select and find. But I do a lot more in word using the insert, layout, review and view tools a lot and shortcuts don't go that far. So, I know and use shortcuts. In fact once I open an app, I hit the CMD key to see the shortcuts.

Thanks a lot for the link. Much appreciated. Am sure a workaround will surface sooner or later. Just a matter of time.

Isn’t that something? I’d only just subscribed. A few days back, exploring — trying to learn more about Notes to help a poster — he seemed to have lots of expert information. With today’s advice, I couldn’t help but think about you. He seems avid on using his iPadPro for everything — and boy, does he, also, have appliance and app tips. I’ll have to go back and review some of them, over time.

Sounds like you’re really very adept at what you do know. His questions at the end, too, speak of learning new apps, sometimes, leaving the mac and switching to the iPP. You know what works best for you. And, as you say, it’ll likely just be a matter of time!

The author of that article took the interview out of context (while perhaps validly so) as he's talking about why Apple doesn't use touch screens on Mac computers/laptops. And they don't. He never referred to iPad in the interview. Even if Apple introduced mouse/touch pad support in the future, it wouldn't make iPad a full laptop replacement. And the reason is iOS is not capable of full laptop capability. It's a Mobile computing operating system. Full versions of important programs have never been available on iPad. The reality is iPad is a great tablet and it can do terrific things, even if we type on them all day. But iPad is not a laptop WITH or WITHOUT a mouse. For me, Apple Pencil has become an indispensable add-on to iPad. I use it more to move around a page on my iPad than to draw with and have found it's pretty close to using a mouse. It's just one I use in my hand to touch and interact with the iPad screen.

LOL. iPad is a computer. iPhone is a computer. They just aren't full featured computers, like a desktop or laptop. And if anyone purchased an iPad because they believed they were buying a full featured laptop desktop computer, they clearly didn't do due diligence in researching what they purchased.

Yea it is. He’s very good and his tips are also very useful. Was surprised he also had a power pack to recharged the iPad Pro as I also use it a lot but have not had to use it thou. Battery seems to be enough so far.

I agree with you, with more apps and capabilities, more of the workflows on the laptop becomes possible.

Checkout his tips on apps for the Mac. This is the link: I found a couple useful: https://youtu.be/0DSWeFLgMMI

Well it depends on your workflow. If they get mouse support, it would replace it for me because the there are just two reasons i still go back to my Mac, when i get fatigued from using the iPad Pro to work on documents over 4 hours plus and when i need to use programs that don’t have iPad support. However, i will not get rid of my MacBook Air or iMac. I like those computers and there are not going anywhere but most work will be done on the iPad Pro when someone, either  or third party provider offers mouse support. So, this is for my personal workflow and it might not pan out for others.

May 27, 2019 1:19 PM in response to IkechukwuNwanze

I am not now, nor have I ever been anti-mouse support for iPad. I'd be one of the very first to get one if I could. What I get annoyed about are people who complain that they think they were lied to about the capability of iPad, when Apple never lied and all anyone had to do was some very simple research. I hope one day, I may only need my iPad. Mouse support would help. But until apps become full featured like they are on a full featured laptop, iPad will not replace a full featured laptop for me.

I’m sorry to hear that Apple’s commercials can’t be trusted.

I do not trust ANY commercial - I am simply immune to advertising and do not believe a thing until I can check all of the facts and realities; a commercial is created in a marketing department. Marketing, by definiton, is (per Wikipedia):

Marketing is defined by the American Marketing Association as "the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large."[4] The term developed from the original meaning which referred literally to going to market with goods for sale.

Marketing is also to appeal to your eyes - oh yeah, this is cool, I want one. It is not created to tell you about anything that it is not. That would be the buyer's due diligence.

May 27, 2019 1:59 PM in response to IkechukwuNwanze

I will. Thank you.

So happens I bought a power pack for a trip — got a ‘smart’ suitcase — and I justified it, also, because a neighbor had one for her cellphone. What if we lost power, she said? She only needed about a 1K size, while I learned, after a bit of research, I needed about a 10K size which would give me about 3 charges.

I’ve never regretted the purchase. Whenever there’s a storm warning, I get out my Mophie — sold by Apple — to be sure it’s fully charged. It’ll charge my cellphone, too. Have been really grateful to learn about it. I was curious to see he’d chosen a different brand.
