iMovie: videos downloaded from Facebook and imported to iMovie has only half of audio

I have more or less same issue as this poster: Half of audio missing after update and guys in the thread.

I downloaded my personal videos from Facebook (native feature of FB, no extra plugins involved), 5 videos from different dates. Imported them to iMovie, and they have only half of the audio. All of them.

There is no problem, when I play them with VLC, QuickTime or "space" bar (quick preview).

Is there anyway to solve this?

Hi,

I remember the thread that you posted. Yasmin86 had a workaround that involved exporting the audio only, that then played properly, and then he imported that audio back into the iMovie project, where it also played correctly. Something like that. I take it you understandably find that cumbersome. Have the other proposed workarounds in the thread failed to work for you?

I haven't seen any other solutions or workarounds since then. You might try using the free download Handbrake to convert the clip to Mp4/AAC, that Handbrake will do by default. Then see if you have the other half of the audio back when played in iMovie.

You also could try opening the clip in Quicktime Player, and then saving it to your desktop. You will get a .mov file. Try importing that into iMovie and see if it plays the full audio.
