iPhone 8 Plus Portrait photo issues

Greetings,

I've search the forums for this issue and haven't found it, but apologies if it has been asked and addressed previously.

Recently, I upgraded from an iPhone 7 Plus to an 8 Plus. I would take portrait photos quite frequently with the 7, loved the results, and thought the upgraded phone would have the same results, if not better.

However, this hasn't been the case at all. All portrait photos I take with my 8 Plus tend to be fuzzy. Specifically, the object in the photo is never quite clearly outlined, and looks a bit fuzzy. When pinching to zoom in, those photos look quite pixelated.

I've taken enough portrait style photos with the 7 to understand the importance of lighting, movement (or lack thereof), proximity to the subject, etc., so I know the issue does not lay there. I've checked the camera settings and nothing seems to be off either. There's no case which I use that obstructs the lens and the phone hasn't been dropped or collided with anything.

There are no issues with taking normal photos or videos. The issue only appears when taking Portrait photos, which leads me to suspect an issue with the extra lens. Am not sure exactly how the process works, but as far as I've understood, that second lens only comes into use when shooting portrait photos? Am guessing, am not sure.

Has anyone had this issue?

Thanks in advance,

Stephen
