Printer cancels jobs continually.

I have a new macbook pro. I have a Dell C1760 laser printer colour. Every time I try to print anything the printer immediately cancels job. Wifi nor hard wire works. Installed drivers, uninstalled, reinstalled nothing works. I'm a pensioner but not silly. I have always managed ok before. I saw on here others are having same problem. please help as I can't afford another printer. Thanks in anticipation.
