Brand new Apple Watch 3 and Macbook Pro won't talk...

I have a brand new Apple Watch 3 and 2017 Macbook Pro 13" and older iPhone 5s. I cannot get the watch to unlock the Macbook. Each is up to date with latest updates and I've tried everything on "the google." Apple, please help?
