Import multitrack wav into Logic Pro X?

I've seen this question a couple of times with solutions that either don't apply to the latest version of Logic or simply left unanswered.

Does anyone know how to import a multitrack wav file so that it splits into the individual tracks?

I've had success before (purely by fluke and inconsistent) so an actual method would be great.

Thanks.

it appears things have changed it the most recent releases..... Here is what I have deduced....

1/ if you pull into logic a multi channel wav that matches a surround sound format ie.7.1 would be an 8 multi track wav file - it will import it as a surround file ( and not split it)

2/ if you pull into logic a multi channel file that does not match a surround format - logic will prompt you with a request on how you want to separate them.

So the only work around I know of at this time.... is to add dummy tracks to the wav file so that on import it will separate - then delete the dummy tracks....

Thanks for this. 🙌-1F3FC;

Do you mean added tracks at the time of recording? If so, that’s all cool, but looking at a solution for my current situation where the recording is completed and I just have a directory of wav files. Seems strange to me that they would change that import option given it’s a pretty standard recording technique!

Thanks again.

There is a free program called soundfilesmerger - it takes existing mono or multi channel wav files and allows you to combine them. So if I had 6 channels - ( which would be appear to logic to be a 5.1 surround) I would add it to soundfilesmerger and then add another dummy track to give me 7 - this would then import into logic as individual multi track files..... so yes you can do it after recording.
